LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis called his new home the Death Star in 2020 — and the name stuck. The futuristic stadium takes center stage on Feb. 11 when the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers meet in the first-ever Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Last year's Super Bowl host, the Arizona Cardinals' stadium, uses a similar transfer system. Players slipped on that grass in the Super Bowl, which the Chiefs won 38-35 over the Philadelphia Eagles. The NHL's Vegas Golden Knights and the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces also had the honors after winning their leagues' championships.

CNN —Parts of West Maui are still on track to begin a phased reopening to tourists starting Sunday, October 8 – but the action comes with some controversy. ET Friday, the phased reopening was still on schedule according to the Hawai‘i Visitors & Convention Bureau and the office of Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen. Here’s where things stand for the tourism-reliant island heading into the weekend:What’s opening on MauiAreas of West Maui – including Nāpili, Kāʻanapali, Honokōwai and Kapalua – are part of the reopening, according the Hawai‘i Visitors & Convention Bureau. “We advise travelers to check with the individual accommodations in West Maui for their reopening plans,” the Visitors Bureau said. CNN —Hawaii’s Big Island is under a tropical storm warning as Tropical Storm Calvin is forecast to pass over or just south of the island, threatening to bring dangerous coastal surf, heavy rain and gusty winds to the area, according to the National Hurricane Center. Calvin is expected to remain a weak tropical storm as it swiftly presses westward and passes by the state. The heavy rainfall poses the most significant threat, prompting flood watches for the islands of Maui, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe and the Big Island from Tuesday evening through Wednesday afternoon. Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms will reach the Big Island by Tuesday evening, and continue through the night. Flash flooding is the primary threat, especially for Big Island.
